Breaking: @hrw has confirmed—based on verified video & witness accounts—that Israel used white phosphorus in Gaza & Lebanon. White phosphorus causes excruciating burns—causing lifelong suffering—& can set homes afire. Its use in populated areas is unlawful https://t.co/AzN4bAHkau pic.twitter.com/USyi8fsOf9 — Omar Shakir (@OmarSShakir) October 12, 2023ALT

i was doing a bunch of fact checking earlier and as far as I can tell this is 100% true

which should fucking HORRIFY everybody because white phosphorous is a nasty, cruel and torturous weapon that should never be used against anyone let alone civilians.

basically it burns and burns until there is no more contact with oxygen, so shards of it will burn their way down to bone inside the victim's body and often re-ignite when doctors try to dig them out. It is easily fatal or permanently disabling and causes excruciating injuries

Now you know why white people hate history and having it explained with context.

roach-works

here's how i explain racism to white guys who never thought about it: on a tobacco plantation is a field full of black slaves, and one white guy getting paid 25 cents a day to sit on a horse with a big hat and a gun. and he keeps those slaves working for his 25 cents and his seat on the horse.

and inside the plantation house is another white man sitting in a cool comfortable chair, sipping lemonade, making a hundred dollars a day off that idiot sweating his ass off on a horse. because if he ever dropped the gun, if he walked off with the slaves...

but he never did. none of those overseers ever did. so that's still going on today. if you're white you're still being handed a hat and a quarter and a gun. and the sun's beating down on all of you out here in this fucking field growing poison for another man's mansion.

and you're never going to get to taste that lemonade.

do you put the gun down?

I have an ancestor who was drafted into the Confederate army and deserted to join the Union. He made a choice like all the others.

In response to this event, some redditors created r/charityraid, with the goal of concentrating the power of thousands of users into a single charity at a time to hopefully break a few more sites.

As of 9/21/21, the site has updated with more wishes. The incredible spike in donations is amazing, but if you want to and are able to keep the momentum going, there are over 300 waiting to be filled at https://www.onesimplewish.org!

a lot of these are very basic, small things. i just spent 17 dollars to buy a kid water shoes for a lake vacation ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Since I came across this post the first time, I try to go to One Simple Wish semi-regularly and buy a foster kid something. There’s a wide range of wishes and prices available–you can pick something as little as a book to put under the tree, or as important as a set of pots and pans for a kid transitioning to their independent living setting, so you can pick whatever suits your budget and tickles your fancy. Help some kids who could use a good turn in life.
